Embedded rail systems eliminate metal fasteners. This is extremely good for electrical insulation. The greater part of the rail is embedded in pourable elastomer materials such as "Corkelast". This results in a substantial reduction in noise levels. This system is extensively used on bridges and level crossings.
The widespread development of light rail and metro systems, some of which run along roads, has led to considerable growth in embedded rail systems. Adjacent track work may include direct fixation track on concrete slab. Tiflex have used their considerable technical resources and skills to tailormake materials for strips to fit directly under the rails. These materials have not only been selected for their attenuation properties but also for their low water absorption and high electrical insulation. Further details are available on request.
These are derived from the PACT System. The continuous support afforded by the Trackelast Rail Strip reduced rail-stress and avoids vibrations of the rail base. This contributed to the reduction in noise levels and is effective in absorbing vibration. The materials most widely used for this application are either FC892 or FC105A.
There are many vibration problems associated with crane rail assemblies. The application calls for a filler material in the form of a continous strip to be fitted between the rail and the support. The strip must be stiff enough to prevent undue stress in the rail, yet of sufficient resilience to absorb vibration which would otherwise be transmitted to the surrounding structure. There are basically two types of Crane Rail strip available, GD and SD both at 5mm thick. The selection is dependent on the load to be imposed on the material.
